Omar asks India Inc to hold 'Davos-type' meet in Kashmir

Hardselling Jammu and Kashmir as anc, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said India Inc should organise a Davos-type industry meet and Gulmarg would be an appropriate venue for that.

"We should organise a Davos-type meeting in the country so that domestic as well as international players could see for themselves the abundant investment opportunities prevailing here," Omar told reporters here.

Taking the example of his state, he asked industry to look at investment opportunities in the region in various areas, including farm, power, tourism, IT and handicraft.

Omar said Gulmarg offers facilities for business houses for having meetings twice a year. "We can have meetings over golf in summer and skiing in winters," he said.

Davos, in Switzerland, is the place where the World Economic Forum meets once every year to brainstorm economic challenges, investment opportunities and policy matters.

"Investors need to free their minds of the idea of Jammu and Kashmir being a militancy-hit state. The state offers excellent investment opportunities for everyone, be it in the field of power, IT, agriculture and even handicrafts," the Chief Minister added.

Omar said the next meeting of CII Task Force on economic uplift of the state would be held in Kashmir in September this year.
