Meditation brings
peace of mind: Jora
JAMMU, JANUARY 10 – Underscoring the need to
promote moral values, the Minister for Tourism and Culture Mr.
Nawang Rigzin Jora today said that the simple life is key to
lead a stress free life. Meditation is a novel way to get peace
of mind, he added.
Speaking at a seminar, ‘a harmonious world begins in the mind’,
the Minister said that simple life style, religious teachings
and moral values were primarily necessary for mental peace which
has been exposed to great stress in the present day materialist
world.
The seminar was organized by the Mahabodhi Charitable Trust,
running various humanitarian and social projects like Mahabodhi
Residential School with its sister branches in two different
remote villages of Leh besides hostels for male and female
students of poor and backward communities, a charitable hospital
and a home for the old and aged citizens and a school for
visually impaired children in Ladakh region. The organization
has also established its centre in Jammu recently.
The Minister appreciated Mahabodhi International Meditation
Centre for organizing the seminar, adding that it would go long
way in inculcating the spirit of brotherhood, religious
tolerance and developing a conflict free harmonious society. He
suggested that such functions need to be organized in nook and
corner of the State for the benefit of common masses and to
eradicate the evils from the society.
Spiritual Director, Ven. Bhikkhu Sanghasena (MIMC) gave details
about the activities of the Meditation Centre and about the
benefits of meditation adding that meditations is the most power
tool to overcome various difficulties and mental conflicts
prevailing in the society.
HOD of Budhist studies, Jammu University, Prof. Bidyanath Labha
and former Director General Tourism, Mr. Mohammad Ashraf also
spoke on the occasion and threw detailed light on the topic.
Earlier, the function was inaugurated by the Minister by
lighting the traditional lamp.
A large number of prominent citizens, scholars, intellectuals,
academicians, students of Mahabodhi School Leh and educational
institutions of Jammu participated in the function.
