Governor releases
‘Mystic land of half moon, Ladakh’
Emphasizes for producing well researched
books to showcase rich heritage of JK
JAMMU, DECEMBER 24 – The Governor, Mr. N. N.
Vohra, has stressed the need for well researched books being
written about Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions to enable the
coming generations to become aware of the rich history,
composite cultural heritage and other glorious facets of the
State.
The Governor made this observation while releasing “Mystic land
of half moon, Ladakh”, at a function held at Raj Bhavan, here
this evening. This book has been authored by Dr. Ashok Jerath.
The Governor said that we need well-produced and affordable
priced books on varied subjects, adding that particular
attention needs to be paid to adequately explore Jammu and
Kashmir. He said that various Chairs set up in the Universities
of the State should sponsor writing of such books by reputed
historians and writers. He mentioned that the Universities could
also take up research projects through senior students and
scholars for producing authentic materials.
Referring to the tourism sector, the Governor observed that
there is an imperative need for producing materials targeted for
the tourists, which would help in showcasing the rich cultural
diversity, historical buildings and places, monuments and other
landmarks in the State for promotion of the tourist sector. He
said that in this age of IT revolution, quality books have a
greater relevance, utility and demand.
The Governor interacted with all those present on the occasion
and shared his memories and experiences about Ladakh where he
had served in mid 60’s.
One set each of books written by Dr. Ashok Jerath and those
published by Manvi Prakashan was presented to the Governor on
the occasion.
Prof. Lalit Magotra presented review of all the 14 chapters of
the book running into 161 pages. He said that the book vividly
depicts the enchanting natural beauty, geography, people,
culture, monasteries, festivals, food habits, architecture, etc
of Ladakh with graphic details. He complimented the author for
writing a well documented book about Ladakh and its people.
Earlier, in his introductory remarks, Mr. Jag Mohan said that
Dr. Ashok Jerath has authored 40 books so far and received many
honours and awards at the State and the national level.
Dr. Jerath, in his Vote of Thanks, expressed his gratitude to
the Governor for releasing the book.
A number of writers, academicians and intellectuals were present
at the book release function. They included Dr. Ved Ghai, Prof.
Nilambar Dev Sharma, Prof. Champa Sharma, Prof. Shashi Pathania,
S. Didar Singh, Mr. Om Vidyarthy, Dr. Om Goswami, Mr. Arsh
Sehbai, Mr. Anil Kumar Azad, Mr. Indu Bhushan, Mr. Brij Mohan
and Mr. Subhash Sharma. |
