Jammu and Kashmir government declares 2010 as ‘Visit Kashmir’ year

Tuesday, December 29, 2009:The Jammu and Kashmir government has declared 2010 as ‘Visit Kashmir’ year on expectations of a huge tourist inflow in the New Year. While inaugurating a three-day Snow Festival recently in Gulmarg, Nawang Rigzin Jora, Tourism Minister, Jammu and Kashmir said, “We expect a rise in the tourist inflow during the tourist season in 2010. So the state tourism department has decided to celebrate the New Year as ‘Visit Kashmir’ year.” Jora said that the future seems bright as hotels in Gulmarg are booked in advance for the next three months.

According to a report in kashmirlive.com, for making the initiative a success, Jora said that the state government has taken a slew of measures to attract tourists. “Besides attending various travel trade events being held in various parts of the country, the state government plans to conduct road shows at Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Surat and Goa to attract tourists,” added Jora.
